some small creeks and streams are falling faster than normal, the result of a deluge over the weekend. that is true of the russian river as well. so those trees over there, 20 feet high. those trees under the water. >> the owner of river bend rv park -- the russian river made it to 30 feet, short of flood stage at this location, but george had to move several of his rv guests to higher ground as the russian river got higher. it's dropped several feet just since this morning. a trend that he doesn't think will change much with this latest round of rain. >> i think it will come up a little bit but it it won't be quite as much. >> reporter: i talked to a fire chief with the san rafael fire department. he says that rising creek levels with this latest storm is not really the concern. it's the rain hitting already saturated soil. they will be watching for

potential landslides. back to you. to the south bay, we're in the santa cruz mountains where they've been work to be repair a washed-out road. >> reporter: by this hour a lot of people who live up here were hoping to be able to drive on this spot where i'm standing. we spent the day with crews who were trying to make that happen. you can see why those hopes eroded quickly. work crews trying to reopen vine hill road was an encouraging sight for people in the santa cruz mountains near scott's valley. >> it's scary. that was all vegetation and trees. it looks so solid. it really did. that's scary. >> county officials say restoring vine hill to a one lane road is a top priority because it's a crucial connection to highway 17 and silicon valley. >> we were hoping to get it

open today but had a few more complications, had to lay some more pipe in the ground, more than we thought. it should be open by tomorrow afternoon. >> some say if that doesn't happen -- >> for the locals this will add 15 minutes to any trip that has to go to the valley. >> once the temporary repair work is done, officials will monitor the hillside to see how it's holding up. if all goes well, restoring vine thoil two lanes could be done in about a month. if not therks say a permanent fix could be four to five months down the road. >> it's the weather. we can't really open up the ground there and do any digging with a lot of rain forecasted and all. this is not worth the chance. you are just aggravating the site. >> one lane is making me nervous. >> a lot have heavy trucks were on this section today. that should inspire some confidence. those trucks will resume work tomorrow morning weather

permitsing. back to you. a caltrans is hoping tonight's rain will not cause more damage along highway 1 in san mateo. crews worked to stabilize erosion from the weekend storm in pacifica. one way traffic controls were in place during the day after a complete closure overnight. caltrans said that the work would be finished by 3:00 p.m. today and all lanes reopened. a tree that fell over in live more was removed today. two vehicles were crushed and trapped by that tree. the tree fell over yesterday after. it was all cleaned up by 1:00 p.m. today. crews fixing a giant sink hole in lafayette say it may take until next spring for permanent repairs. this is new video from this afternoon. an 80-food long section of the road collapsed sunday because of an overflowing storm drain. crews are working on a temporary fix but say the detours will likely be in place

until repairs are finished in the spring. there are some showers up in the north bay right now. the far north bay. this is not a huge weather event. the rain that we saw a few days ago, major stuff. what's coming now, i'd call it nuisance showers, maybe a little more. it will impact the morning commute. the showers are north of santa rosa. we're getting reports of sprinkles up there, 45-50 miles from the central bay. the santa rosa area, up by fulton road we have some showers. that's moderate rainfall. by old redwood highway we have showers. st. helena, moderate showers to light. just coming into the sunset district, i have some light sprinkles moving in. you can see that's the cliff house area. in that area we're seeing some light sprinkles. that's sort of what's out there now.

street. and plea deal, norman wielsch will plead guilty to tomorrow to five counts including theft and conspiracy to distribute marijuana and methamphetamine. under terms of the deal he will get no less than ten years in prison when he is sentenced in february. the former commander along with former concord private investigator christopher butler were both indicted last year for allegedly stealing drugs, operating a brothel, and conducting phony sting operations to rob prostitutes. butler has already pleaded guilty and is in prison. oakland police report the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that left a man in serious condition this morning. police say it happened just after 9:00 a.m. near east 31st street and 13th avenue. they say that the suspect shot the victim several times, then ran off and jumped into a car. police did get the license plate number from a witness and caught up with him near the fruitvale district at about 10:30 a.m. they have not yet released the name of the suspect but say a gun was thrown from his car.

in 1967 that we found on youtube. the film was about the grateful dead and the growing hippie movement in this area. >> part of the neighborhood is occupied by ordinary people, bewildered by what's going on. part of it is occupied by a growing population of hippies. >> because the homes are so old and so close together, neighbors watched with anguish hoping the fire wouldn't spread to even more homes. >> these old victorians are made of redwood. they're very dense and very packed together and usually when you see one go, you lose three. >> it's a big fear of mine. i'm always worried about it. >> reporter: now no one was hurt in the fire. there is extensive water damage to both homes. the people who live in both of the homes will have to find another place to stay for a while. back to you. thousands of people nationwide mostly teenagers and young adults are having to go to the hospital due to side effects from smoking synthetic marijuana. for the first time the federal

government is tracking the number of emergency room visits caused by synthetic marijuana or what's can commonly called k2 or spice. the drugs were linked to more than 11,000 hospital visits in 2010. they can cause seizures and hallucinations. the sale of synthetic drugs is illegal in a number of states including california. a political scandal in the south bay, a santa c larks ra county supervisor has been ordered to reimburse the county for $13,000 in expenses. an internal audit found the board president used a taxpayer funded credit card for personal expenses. that included golf fees, casino hotel stays, and rental card -- car upgrades. he said he will reimburse some of the expenses but is defending some of the other expenditures. today the oakland police department talked for the first time about the arrest in an

assault on anna toc particular girl. paul chambers spoke with the police chief. the chief is not mincing words. >> that is correct. oakland police won't give many details about this open active investigation. there were strong words today from the chief. >> this is by far one of the most sickening cases i've seen in my career as a police officer, that someone as mr. atkinson can take advantage of of someone of this stature. >> look at this man. he's 36-year-old gary atkinson of san francisco. today he was charged with several criminal counts including kidnapping with force and three covents rape of a 16- year-old severel autistic girl who according to her father has the mental capacity of a 6 or 7- year-old. police say last tuesday around 7:00 p.m. the 16-year-old left fred finch facility and headed toward the fruitvale bart station. she was followed by youth center employees who lost

sieghtsd of her. 48 hours later she was found found on a muni train in san francisco. surveillance cameras helped identify atkinson who was arrested sunday night near the same bart station. he does have a criminal record. >> some of our officers recognized mr. atkinson. they then based on the photo that was sent out was able to identify mr. atkinson. some of our officers have had previous contact with him. >> police wouldn't say what his prior crimes are but a court clerk says he does have one felony conviction. back to you. oakland council members are scheduled to tackle the ongoing dog fight over astro park at tonight's council meeting. the planning commission has denied a previously approved proposal to make the corner of macarthur and lakeshore into a fenced dog park. supporters of the dog park are appealing this decision to the city council.

>> we need to catch up with other cities around the country and around the bay area, that welcome families with dogs to their parks. >> this is a nice area. it would be fleiss for this to stay reserved for children in particular especially with the lakeview branch library being so close. >> the city council is expected to make a final decision tonight. work at two of the nation's busiest ports is at a standstill as a a strike continues for an eighth day. clerical workers are walking the picket lines at ten terminals at the ports in l.a., and long beach. they've been without a contract now for more than two years. dock workers are refusing to cross their picket lines. president obama and l.a.'s mayor are urging the workers union and the ports to quickly reach an agreement. the mayor says the strike is costing the local economy billions of dollars. in egypt today huge crowds gathered outside the presidential pal toys protest what they say is the

government's abuse of power. more than 100,000 egyptians took part in the protest breaking through bashed wire around the palace. a nationwide referendum on the controversial draft constitution is set for december 15. egyptian media will shut down tomorrow to join the protest. nato members agreed today to deploy a patriot anti- missile system in turkey to protect the country against any crossfire from syria. this comes as syrian rebels released a video reportedly showing air attacks by government fighters and heavy damage to buildings in damascus suburbs. the obama administration is hoping that russia will goin the international community in forming a coalition against syria's president. >> we want to work with russia as we've said many times on the

the state attorney general issued a bulletin to all law enforcement agencies today telling them they do not have to comply with a federal immigration program. attorney general camila harris says the immigration and customs for the program called secure communities is unconstitutional. she's telling police across the state to enforce it under their own discretion. secure communities instructs law enforcement to hold

undocumented immigrants until ice can pick them up. critics say this just clogs jails and nets too many people who are not criminals. >> this will make clear to them that they have the right to release, those undocumented immigrants, if they believe that that's in the best interests of of public safety in their community. >> the attorney general says from march to june of of this year in california, 28% of the undocumented workers held turned out to be noncriminals. a california icon gets a makeover. renovations on the famous hollywood sign are done. the nine week facelift include add fresh coat of white paint. it's owned by the city of los angeles and was refurbished thanks to the hollywood sign trust fund and sherwin williams which supplied the paint. the bright light was broadway shined this year. 2012 was the best year for broadway. it just passed $1.2 billion in ticket sales. 60% of that came from tourists.

flounder before the fda approves the sale of their fish. aqua bounty was set to become the world's first company to sell fish that has dna that has been altered to speed up growth. despite a multiyear review, the fda still has not given final approval. the decision could take months or years. the c.e.o. of aqua bounty says the company may run out of money before that approval comes. internet radio pandora is offering a bleak forecast for the next year. they posted better than expected third quarter results but said they expected a full year loss for the fiscal year that ends in january. pandora shares slid more than 18% in after hours trading. this is their latest stock diver due to increasing concerns about competition from apple. netflix is adding newly released movies to its streaming service, but not until 2016. they inked a deal with disney that takes licensing rights away from stores at the end of

we're seeing a little drizzle being reported along the coast. i expect that because the atmosphere is really, really moistened up a lot. with that super moist atmosphere, it does not take top trigger out a few sprinkles. so here we are now. we go to 4:00 a.m. that's early morning commute. you can see that's the main front or the main dynamic. then there will be a lot of moisture behind it. at 6:00 a.m., you have wet roads around the bay area. that just messes the morning commute up. be prepared for that. by 10:00 a.m. most of the showers should be gone. i suspect wet roads and maybe a few sprinkles. for the most part it's all about the morning. the morning commute will be our headline. that's the deal when this rain hits. santa rosa could get up to an
